A biographical book highlighting the life and work of Filipina type designer Alli Cunanan. The design incorporates elements of Alli’s own typefaces and design style, blending her creative process with her cultural and creative influences.
I developed the full layout and composition, ensuring each spread reflected her own work. The result is a cohesive visual narrative that celebrates her contribution to contemporary type design while showcasing the beauty and intention of her craft.
INSPIRATION FROM RESEARCH
In Alli’s most famous typefaces, “Ladybird Light” and “Roma Serif”, she uses a diamond shape in the center of her “O” s, dotting her “j” s and “i” s, and as her periods, commas, quotations, etc. I decided to take this shape and repeat it throughout the book, using it to break up content and provide visual interest. The color choices were also inspired by how Alli promotes and presents her work, as she often uses bright yellows and pinks.
