A biographical book highlighting the life and work of Filipina type designer Alli Cunanan. The design incorporates elements of Alli’s own typefaces and visual language to convey her distinctive style and personality, seamlessly blending her creative process with her cultural and artistic influences.
I developed the full layout, composition, and typographic system, ensuring each spread reflected her balance of precision and playfulness. The result is a cohesive visual narrative that celebrates her contribution to contemporary type design while showcasing the beauty and intention behind her craft.
INSPIRATION FROM RESEARCH
In Alli’s most famous typefaces, “Ladybird Light” and “Roma Serif”, she uses a diamond shape in the center of her “O” s, dotting her “j” s and “i” s, and as her periods, commas, quotations, etc. I decided to take this shape and repeat it throughout the book, using it to break up content and provide visual interest. The color choices were also inspired by how Alli promotes and presents her work, as she often uses bright yellows and pinks.
